PaintAfter you come and see us at Wasaga Beach Decorating and pick out the perfect paint for your home, you may be anxious to get that new colour up on your walls. To ensure that painting your home goes smoothly, we have a few tips that we think you should keep in mind.

  1. Start with the Trim. When you paint any room, it’s best to start with the trim, then move on to the ceiling, and finally paint the walls last. The main reason why it’s a good idea to follow this order is because it’s both faster and easier to tape off the trim when you haven’t painted the walls yet.
  2. Mix Your Paint. Although you may have bought the same colour paint, the actual colour can vary slightly from can to can. To ensure that your paint is a consistent colour throughout the room, start by mixing all of your paint cans into one larger container.
  3. Clean Dirty Surfaces. If your walls are dirty or oily, it will be difficult for the paint to bond with the surface, resulting in chipping or peeling. For this reason, it’s a good idea to clean your walls with a heavy-duty cleaner before you apply the new paint.
  4. Use Cotton Drop Cloths. To protect your floors, you may think that plastic drop cloths are the way to go. However, cotton drop cloths are a better choice since they are heavy, causing them to stay in place wherever you lay them down.
