There is nothing quite like a well-lit room. Lighting can set the tone in a room, define a space, and determine your mood all at the same time. Lighting is everything, but how do you know what type of lighting to choose for each room in your house? It doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to figure out, but nothing ruins the look and feel of a room like bad lighting. Here are a few things you should consider when placing lighting in your home.
- More Than One Light Fixture- You should have more than one light fixture in each room. At least three different areas of lighting in each room can help you achieve the effect of layered lighting. You will want an overhead light, table light, and some kind of decorative light in each room. This helps create more contrast in a room and prevents it from looking flat and boring.
- Use Natural Light- Take advantage of natural light in the areas of your home that have the most access to it throughout the day. It is cost-effective, simple, and can really have an impact on your mood and the ambience of your home.
- Avoid Bad Lighting- Nothing is worse than bad lighting in a room that requires the best lighting. An example would be the bathroom or the kitchen. It is never fun trying to cook or do your makeup and not be able to see exactly what you are doing. It is best to use bright lights and fixtures that do not sit into the wall.
